Real Estate FAQ

So with wanting to enter a new industry or start a career, you probably have a a few questions. And don't worry, that's a good thing! Here are some frequently asked questions!



Do I need a license?

-If representing someone or selling then YES, but according to some lawyers, the requirements per license very per state

-Getting a license will teach you the proper legalities

-If you are selling your own property or buying a property, "for sale by owner" style, then no you do not need a license


Do I need a license to rent out my property?

-Yes, according to All Property Management (they have a list of requirements for all states)

-In most states, including Washington, you must have a real estate license if you are a property owner and plan on renting out the property

-If you choose to rent out your property through a property management or real estate company/ brokerage than you do NOT need a license... You just don't make as much money if you manage it yourself.


How do I get a license?

According to Brightwood Real Estate Education, this is how you can get your real estate license:

-Know the requirements. Each license is different, and each state has different requirements.

-Enroll in a real estate prelicensing course that abides by the state requirements in which you live

-Take the real estate exam

-Pass the exam and you are on your way!


Pro tip, you will want to find a mentor to help guide you through this and possibly a class.
